Alimony in Florida

Florida alimony law has recently changed. There are now six types of alimony that people may qualify for:

  • Permanent alimony: Awarded to a recipient following a long or moderate-duration marriage
  • Rehabilitative alimony: Purpose of assisting the recipient in developing the skills and acquiring the education necessary to become self-supporting
  • Durational alimony: Will provide financial assistance to a party for a certain amount of time
  • Bridge-the-gap alimony: Affords the recipient assistance through his or her transition from married to single
  • Temporary alimony: Awarded to provide for the financial needs of a party throughout the divorce process
  • Lump sum alimony: Can be used as an alternative to permanent alimony, or as a way to balance the distribution of marital assets

These different types of alimony are based on a number of factors, including length of marriage, a spouse's need and a spouse's ability to pay. I will personally assess your situation to determine which type of alimony would best suit you and your case.
